The Sotra Link Consortium begins construction of the Sotra Connection project
The Sotra Link Consortium, made up of FCC Construction, the South Korean civil engineering company SK ecoplant and the Italian industrial group Webuild, has begun its construction with the placement of the first concrete caissons in Knarrevika. The project has begun with the foundation of the new bridge in Øygarden, while construction of the bridge towers on its eastern side in Drotningsvik begins.
The concrete caissons are approximately ten meters long and weigh around 228 tons. These concrete caissons will be sunk to a depth of four meters and will support the foundation of the new bridge towers which will be more than 145 meters high.
This is a project in which a digital model has been implemented, which will allow it to be the construction and design project of the largest “digital bridge” in the world. This is the largest road infrastructure contract in Norwegian history and one of the largest contracts awarded in Europe in the year.
The public-private contract (PPP) includes the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of a 9.4 kilometer four-lane highway, located in the Norwegian county of Vestland. The project aims to improve travel between Bergen and the island of Sotra on the west coast. The construction includes the construction of two twin tunnels of 4.6 kilometers in length and a four-lane bridge of about 900 meters. The new road system will have a space dedicated to public transportation, as well as access for pedestrians and bicycles. In addition, the project includes the construction of three smaller bridges.
