FCC Construcción has won the Digital Collaboration Award at the Construction Excellence Awards 2024 thanks to the A465 GIS Portal platform. This is a tool for collaboration between the different work teams and the supply chain of the A465 Section 5 & 6 project in Wales with the use of BIM, GIS and Drones. 

The jury highlighted the centralisation of data and the accessibility of data around an online solution with construction management applications, monitoring of site activities and data capture in the field. The jury also valued the data integration with major companies such as AtkinsRéalis, TACP, MJ Church, Tarmac and Thames Valleys Construction. The tool has been developed by the Digital-BIM team of the A465 project led by Juan Ramón Mena together with Nidhin Murali and Ashley Rose.

The A465 dual carriageway widening project, sections 5 and 6, are 17.3 kilometres long and are located between the towns of Dowlais Top, Merthyr Tydfil and Hirwaun. At present, these sections of the dual carriageway have a single carriageway and heavy traffic.

The A465 dual carriageway widening project is important for the improvement of mobility and connectivity in Wales, as well as for the revival of the local economy. The widening of the A465 is a major investment that will generate a range of benefits for local businesses involved in the development of the project.
