FCC Construcción Portugal wins the Pisão Dam construction contract (Portugal)

FCC Construcción has won the contract to build the primary infrastructure network for the Crato Multipurpose Hydraulic Development - Pisão Dam. The contract is worth 65 million euro and will be carried out in consortium with the company Alberto Couto Alves.
The project includes the construction of the Pisão dam, which has a maximum height of 54 metres, and will generate a reservoir of 726 hectares of flooded area, with a total storage volume of 116.2 Hm3. In addition, a hydroelectric power station will be built at the foot of the new dam and will have a rated power of 2x269kW.
The dam will guarantee water supply to the populations of the municipalities of Alter do Chão, Avis, Crato, Fronteira, Gavião, Nisa, Ponte de Sor and Sousel, totalling some 55,000 people, and will make it possible to irrigate some 5,500 hectares.
During the construction of the dam, the village of Pisão will need to be relocated to a new village in Monte da Velha.
The overall project also includes a photovoltaic plant, a mini-hydroelectric plant, canals for agricultural irrigation and a public water supply system, as well as the construction of a 150 megawatt floating photovoltaic plant.
This is the largest investment included in the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
FCC Construcción has executed important hydraulic works, including the Gouvães (Portugal), Ribeiradio and Ermida (Portugal), Casasola (Spain), Castrovido (Spain), El Zapotillo (Mexico) and Bajo Frío (Panama) dams.
