FCC Industrial completes construction of the Mariña-Lucense Pipeline
FCC Industrial has completed the construction of the Mariña-Lucense Pipeline in a record time of 11 months. The works consisted of the construction of a 65 kilometre-long pipeline. This infrastructure will provide gas supply to more than 55,000 domestic, commercial and industrial users from seven local councils in the region, including the Alcoa plant.

The works were conducted under a complex orography and in complicated weather circumstances, in an environmentally and culturally rich area. Approximately 200 people joined forces on this project, constituting than 250,000 hours worked.
37 river bed crossings were made during its construction, some of which were formed using directional drilling. In particular, the drilling of the Rio Grande crossing, nearly one kilometre long and more than 70 metres deep, is one of the longest and deepest directional drilling operations of recent years.
The highest health and safety standards of the workers, as well as environmental protection standards, were implemented throughout the construction. This infrastructure was an environmental challenge, given that it has an impact on eight protected natural areas and several high-priority habitats.
Reduction of emissions
43,400 square metres of land were recovered; 18,500 of which correspond to the recovery of high-priority areas. 1,900 plants were laid in an area spanning 5,400 square metres in order to recondition the area of river bed crossings. Operation of this infrastructure will imply a reduction of 250,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Attending the official launch of the pipeline were: the President of the Government of Galicia, Alberto Nuñez; Chairman of Gas Natural Fenosa, Salvador Gabarró; President of Alcoa Spain, Rosa García, among other public authorities. Attending on behalf of FCC Industrial were, Managing Director, Pablo Colio, as well as the Director of Oil&Gas, Eduardo Yges, along with some members of the works team.
