FCC Construcción Portugal has won the contract for the construction of the primary infrastructures of the Empresa Hidráulica Polivalente de Crato - Pisão Dam. The contract will be executed by the consortium of companies FCC Construcción Portugal and Alberto Couto Alves, and represents an investment of more than 65 million euro, making it one of the largest investments in Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

This project will guarantee water supply to the populations of the municipalities of Alter do Chão, Avis, Crato, Fronteira, Gavião, Nisa, Ponte de Sor and Sousel, with a total of more than 55,000 people. It will also allow the irrigation of some 5,500 hectares of irrigated crops.

During the construction of the dam, it will be necessary to move the village of Pisão, which will be submerged, to a new village in Monte da Velha. This project includes the construction of the Pisão dam, with a maximum height of 54 metres, a reservoir with a flooded area of 726 hectares and a total storage volume of 116.2 cubic hectometres, as well as the construction of a hydroelectric power station with a nominal power of 2x269kW. The project also includes the commissioning of a photovoltaic plant, a mini-hydroelectric plant, canals for agricultural irrigation and a public water supply system as well as the construction of a 150 megawatt floating photovoltaic plant.
