FCC Construcción participates in the United Nations Climate Summit and Leaders Summit

FCC Construcción participa en la Cumbre del Clima y Leaders Summit de Naciones Unidas

FCC Construcción has participated in the Climate Summit and Leaders Summit 2024 NY, organised by the United Nations Global Compact.

The main international CEOs and executive directors together with the CEO of the UN Global Compact, Sanda Ojiambo, as well as leaders of the United Nations, government representatives and civil society took stock of the business progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Throughout the event, FCC Construcción participated in plenary sessions, interactive working groups and networking opportunities. Among the most prominent topics were: ‘The Technology Supercycle and its Promise for our Shared Future’; “Accelerating to 2030”; “Rights and Bytes”; “the Dos and Don'ts of Sustainable Supply Chains”; “Corporate Investments for Climate Ambitions”, where FCC Construcción participated by leading the group.

The Leaders' Summit also focused on private sector efforts in five key areas outlined by the Forward Faster initiative: gender equality, climate action, living wage, water resilience, finance and investment.
Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, highlighted the transformative potential of private capital in sustainable finance: ‘Business already works with governments on health, education and scientific breakthroughs, but now, more than ever, the financial sector has a critical role to play. With $200 trillion in private financial assets worldwide, the potential to drive sustainable development is immense. This report underlines that it is not just about identifying the challenges, but about creating innovative mechanisms to unlock private investment, especially in emerging markets where the financing gap is most critical. The work we are doing, together with our partners, is laying the groundwork for a global shift in capital markets, ensuring that investments drive both financial returns and long-term value creation for a sustainable future’.

One of the highlights of the Summit was the announcement of the SDG 2024 Pioneers. These awards recognise a select group of business professionals from around the world who are driving the SDGs forward through leadership and innovation within their organisations.

At the conclusion of the Summit, the call to action for the business community was clear: the private sector must go beyond commitments and take concrete, measurable steps to create lasting global impact.

The ambition of the UN Global Compact is to accelerate and scale up the collective global impact of business by championing the Ten Principles and achieving the SDGs through responsible business and ecosystems that enable change. With more than 20,000 participating companies, 5 regional centres, 62 country networks covering 78 countries and 14 country directors establishing networks in 20 additional countries, the UN Global Compact is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative: a Global Compact that unites business for a better world.
