FCC Construcción has been awarded the ‘Calculate, Reduce, and Compensate’ seal from MITERD's Carbon Footprint, Offsetting, and CO2 Absorption Projects Registry for its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions for the 2023 financial year. This recognition is the result of a reduction in its GHG emissions ratio over the past three years, despite an increase in production, and the company's steadfast commitment to offsetting its emissions.
This milestone, which has enabled FCC Construcción to renew its registration in the Registry for another year, continuing with this initiative that began in 2012, forms part of its Climate Change and Sustainability Strategies, both published in 2023, in which FCC Construcción has set very ambitious short, medium and long-term objectives to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and continue to be a benchmark in terms of sustainability in the construction sector.
Although the seal reflects the GHG emissions of Spain in the 2023 financial year, the process of calculation, verification and certification of FCC Construcción's Carbon Footprint extends to 100% of its activity, corresponding, for the fourth consecutive year, to the total emissions produced in 22 countries. This data can be consulted in its Emissions Report 2023.
The calculation and verification of FCC Construcción's Carbon Footprint are conducted in accordance with the ISO 14064-1:2018 Standard, one of the most rigorous standards for quantifying GHG emissions. This approach enhances the transparency and credibility of the carbon footprint. Furthermore, due to its comprehensive and detailed nature, this calculation enables the company to focus its efforts more effectively on reducing emissions and verifying its results, thereby strengthening its commitment to the environment and sustainability.
Finally, it should be noted that, once again, FCC Construcción has committed to offsetting a portion of its emissions, specifically the GHG emissions associated with its water consumption. This initiative, which commenced in 2022, will be sustained in the coming years to ensure that the segment of the company's emissions that cannot be mitigated through other measures will be offset in the emissions market, thereby achieving neutrality.
