Metro Panama's Line 2 extension project wins ENR Best Global Project award
The project to extend Line 2 of the Panama Metro to Tocumen International Airport (AIT) and the Instituto Técnico Superior del Este (ITSE) has won in the rail project category of the ENR Best Global Project. This project makes Panama the first country in Central America and one of the few cities in South America to have a Metro system connection between the city centre and its main international airport.
The extension of Metro Line 2 has an extension of 2 kilometres. For its development, design engineering services, construction of civil works, auxiliary installations and the construction of two stations have been executed, as well as connections with the integrated railway systems for the implementation of the branch line that connects Metro Line 2 with Tocumen International Airport (AIT) and with the Instituto Técnico Superior del Este (ITSE).
The project benefits thousands of passengers and workers who travel daily through Tocumen International Airport, specifically more than 8,000 workers as well as students and employees of ITSE, in addition to the demand from INADEH and the surrounding schools and communities.
