The Mersey team in the UK converts a plot of land into a garden for the students of a primary school in Halton
Students from the St. Edward's Catholic Primary School in Halton, who are passionate about plants and growing fruit and vegetables, can now enjoy a school garden thanks to the help of the Mersey team in the UK. The initiative is linked to the Mersey Bridge project that FCC is undertaking in the UK.
The new plot comprises raised garden beds, compost containers, water bowls and a wooden shed, as well as a great retreat area that they can use when doing outside school activities.
Karen O’Hare, head teacher of St. Edward's Catholic Primary School, said that the children are excited about starting to plant crops and to use the plot. Neil Wilcock, the Employment and Skills Coordinator for Merseylink, said that it is really important for children know where food comes from and, thanks to this school garden, they will be able to enjoy a safe outdoor environment, using it to get closer to nature.
