FCC is the third largest Spanish construction company in the world for the second year in a row, according to Deloitte's Global Powers of Construction. ACS improves its position as the leading Spanish company, moving up from 12th to 11th place.

Acciona recorded a strong rise, from 33rd to 24th place. FCC improves two places in the ranking to 41st. Ferrovial improved three places to 43rd, while Sacyr moved up from 53rd to 62nd and OHLA climbed from 79th to 76th. Finally, Grupo San José improved three positions from 98th to 95th.

Against a growth of 3.4% in the sector at global level (8% in local currency), the seven Spanish companies in the top 100 ranking recorded a 16% increase in revenues, reaching 85,860 million dollars, compared to 75,097 million dollars the previous year. Thanks to this strong increase, Spain consolidates its sixth position globally behind China, Japan, the USA, France and South Korea. The 100 largest construction companies in the world obtained revenues of 1,997 billion dollars during 2023, which represents a growth of 3.4% compared to the previous year.

China remains the global powerhouse with eight companies in the top 10 with the highest revenues. France maintains two companies in the top ten, occupying the seventh (Vinci) and eighth (Bouygues) positions. On the other hand, Japan and the USA are the countries with the highest number of companies in the top 100, with 14 companies each. China and the UK are behind with 11 companies each. It is worth noting that the 11 Chinese companies account for more than half of the sector's global revenues, specifically 53.5% (1,069,628 M USD vs. 1,997,635 M USD).

The year 2023 was positive for the world's leading construction companies; their aggregate revenues and market capitalisation in local currency grew by 8% and 20% respectively, although average profitability remains low and presents significant challenges. In 2023, Spanish companies far outperformed their international competitors in terms of revenue growth and capitalisation improvement. According to the data collected in the report, revenues generated by non-construction activities and international revenues accounted for 25% and 18% respectively by the companies in the ranking. European companies are the most diversified and internationalised, as opposed to Asian and US companies.

Forty-three percent of the revenues of the leading European construction companies come from activities other than construction, compared to 22% for Asian companies and 14% for US companies.

In terms of degree of internationalisation, European construction companies are once again in the lead with 63% of their turnover coming from other geographies (with ACS as the global leader in terms of degree of internationalisation), well ahead of Asian companies (11%) and US companies (9%).
