FCC Construction Australia Awarded Contract for Queensland’s (Australia) Largest Social and Affordable Housing Precinct
Using a state-of-the-art modular solution, FCC Construction Australia will deliver 490 new social, affordable and specialist disability homes in Woree, Cairns. The modular elements will be manufactured in Australia by domestic modular supplier Modscape in climate controlled off-site premises before being transported to site. This construction technique allows for rapid assembly of the modules that will be lifted directly into position to form a complete housing unit. Once the modular installation has reached three stories high, the roof is constructed as the final component required to complete the building.
This project forms part of the Queensland Government’s Homes for Queenslanders plan and contributes to the target of delivering one million new homes, including 53,500 social homes, by 2046. FCC Construction Australia’s use of an innovative modular design solution will enable rapid assembly, an exciting development for the future of manufacturing and construction in Australia. The precinct will be one of the largest modular housing developments seen in Australia to date.
The new housing precinct will comprise one and two-bedroom apartments set amongst landscaped gardens, including picnic and BBQ areas, and playgrounds. The houses will offer supported independent living for seniors seeking to downsize and people living with disability.
The Cairns social and affordable housing project joins the many residential and non-residential buildings that FCC Construcción has successfully delivered over the past 120 years.
