FCC Construcción wins contract to expand Fira Barcelona

FCC Construcción has won the contract to expand Fira Barcelona, covering all phases of development. The project consists of constructing a new building to expand the existing Fira de Barcelona facility, with the aim of attracting, retaining and expanding large-scale international trade fairs. The project will be developed on a 40,850 square metre site, which, added to the 10,588 square metres of public land, will give a total area of 51,436 square metres. The total project developed by FCC Construcción is worth more than 230 million euros.
The different phases of the project have consisted of: the execution of the foundations and below ground level of the pavilion, including the Hall, foundations for a 75-metre-high office tower and a loading and unloading dock area for use by the Pavilion. The second phase of the work includes the structure and roof of the pavilion, the structure of the lobby, the foundations and structure of the walkway between the lobby and the old pavilion, as well as the structure of the tower.
The third and final phase, recently awarded to FCC Industrial, includes the architecture and installations of the pavilion, the lobby, the tower, the loading bay and the walkway connecting the two buildings.
FCC Construcción is a company with extensive experience in the development of non-residential building projects such as hospitals, sports facilities, cultural centres and conference and exhibition venues such as the Fira de Barcelona, the León Conference Centre, the Valencia Exhibition Centre and the IBC in London.
