FCC Construcción neutral in emissions in its water consumption
FCC Construcción begins to offset the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions associated with its water consumption, obtaining for the first time the "Calculo y Compenso” certification from the Carbon Footprint, Compensation, and Carbon Dioxide Absorption Projects Registry of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITERD- its acronym in Spanish). This compensation has been carried out through the absorption project BOSQUE CO2 GESTIÓN "LA CARBALLEDA I", located in the town of Molezuelas de la Carballeda, in the province of Zamora.
Coinciding with the report, for the first year, of the eligibility of the new taxonomic environmental objectives, more specifically, with the objective "Sustainable Use and Protection of Water and Marine Resources (WTR)", the company wanted to go a step further and reduce its environmental Footprint from another key aspect, its Water Footprint, on which it is currently working.
Although, given the characteristics of the sector, the use of this resource is not so intensive, the works, fundamentally civil, occupy a large surface area of the territory, altering the ecology of the bodies of water. That's why, through the calculation and verification of the company's Water Footprint, the risks to this resource will be studied in detail and the most effective solutions will be sought to prevent them from materializing into impacts.
FCC Construcción is aware that the construction sector plays an important role in shaping our environment and in the economic and social development of communities, so it is essential for the company to take responsibility for its impacts and work to reduce them through various tools such as its "Sustainability Strategy", approved by Senior Management, which guides its steps and actions in the coming years, as well as the calculation and compensation of its Carbon Footprint and, now, its Water Footprint.
